Gettin' Ragged

Ragged Jack, Really Rockabilly:

Ragged Jack, as powerful and rugged as the mountain it is named after, is a rockabilly style music trio; with powerful vocals, unique instrumentation, and awesome stage energy!

According to the bands’ Facebook biography, after playing together in another band, Tom "The H-Bomb" Hines and Corey Bonnevie realized that there was a strong musical chemistry between them. When they added the standup bass, vocals and personality of Holly Marie Hughes, a magical energy was born.

Tom Hines had been playing drums for nearly 40 years, in 20 different bands in and around the River Valley, when he and Corey Bonnevie founded Ragged Jack only 8 years ago. Mr. Hines calls Mr, Bonnevie, “The Tasmanian Devil of Guitar,” and says “He is a world class guitar slinger! “The first time I saw him play I knew he was who I had been looking for my whole life!” Strong praise from a decades-long drummer. Six years ago, when Holly Marie, now Corey’s wife, joined Ragged Jack, the current powerhouse trio was born, in the words of Mr, Hines, “Holly is a world class musician who has mastered slapping the doghouse bass and is beautiful and extraordinary in every way.”

Mr. Hines, who recently retired after 38 years in the Rumford paper mill, currently Nine Dragons, says his favorite song is “Fire on the Mountain,” and though he loves to play at venues in his hometown of Rumford, Maine, he likes to play anywhere there is high energy and chaos!

Corey Bonnevie, who by profession is an Emergency Medical Technician, plays mandolin, banjo, celtic bodhran, fiddle, piano, organ, bass, harmonica, and dobro but only plays the guitar for Ragged Jack, having 15 years of experience and spots in the lineup of six other bands under his belt.

Mr. Bonnevie, who has no favorite song on his setlist says, “I let the night and vibe dictate for me, but anything I play on the Casablanca Cruise is good!

Holly Marie Bonnevie, also an EMT by trade, and the third member of this amazing trio has played stand up or ‘double’ bass for 15 years, including her six years in Ragged Jack. A well versed musician, Holly also plays alto, tenor, and baritone saxophone, flute, piccolo, mandolin, fiddle, and guitar. She has been in bands such as “Patrick Libby & Shilo Creek,” “Breakin' Strings,” and “Hughes Family.”

Although Ms. Bonnevie is a very talented vocalist, taking over singing duties on such country classics as Ragged Jack’s rockabilly version of the Dolly Parton standard, “Jolene,” her favorite song to play is “Tainted Love,” by Soft Cell, which she likes to perform at her favorite stop, The Porthole in the Old Port.

Ragged Jack’s fans, “The Ragged Jack Army,” are growing bigger every day, because the band does not disappoint! "When Tom beats the drum, Corey strikes a cord, and Ms Holly Marie crawls up on her bass and continues to play effortlessly, you will want to keep coming back for more!
