Yesterday's Words
467 words and an author byline but I am only interested in the headline At least 19 dead in Mosul attack 2 days after a teen/shark battle sunbather's back I collect and trade them like germs in a greasy spoon to pass on to the innocent paying consumer soon Today's top story; a gleam in his eye I collect his words as they stream by Blair's son is going to be a republican intern indeed 50,000 still missing six months after tsunami waters recede there is a video showing scarred land of course former presidents shaking their head in remorse 467 words and an author byline I am addicted to headlines five words scream, "Woman In Car Already Dead!" "Shaq doesn't need more money!" His coach said Jordan bans Saddam's new novel, free expression be damned. One more final crusade for Billy Graham.

23 September News Storeom
I wonder if I shall ever love again
without thinking
the lady must not be
named/take after a hellish storm.
Down in the Gulf,
Rita angrily churns.
Maximum sustained winds of 135 mph
and 20-foot storm surge.
How many more?
How many more?
In New Orleans
The hell that was
the Ninth Ward
loses another levee
Three weeks after Katrina.
Water, more glorious,
God given water.
How high's the water Papa?
waist-deep and rising...
A bus carrying elderly evacuees
Catches fire on
a crowded, stalled highway.
Cruel irony.
Life supporting
oxygen tanks burn so well.
How many more?
How many more?
2 million residents
must evacuate.
A crazy twist;
highways out of Houston,
can't accommodate
a million cars
Stuck in
Miles and tens of miles
of gridlock.
Once again the National Guard
is providing relief,
This time the other
life giving/taking liquid
gasoline.
On Friday,
Louisiana's death toll
from Hurricane Katrina
rose to 841.
How many more?
How many more?

Scratchings On The Beach
It's all just scratchings on the beach,
where I come to relax in the sun
and wash away the rest of the world.
But on a Sunday morning
in my world bracketed by realities
and the insistent internet,
my favorite dot com news site
screams headlines into
my morning coffee.
A New pirate attack was foiled
on the high seas and briny foam.
Down in the border towns
the hitmen will tell you,
"It's all about logic," as someone's
children are killed in the crossfire
on our city streets.
Lives are washed away
like scratchings on the beach.
Three children died
in a Texas car crash
on a busy interstate this morning,
and a family was found dead
in a Maryland home,
not far from
the quiet ocean beach.
Once again Madonna
has fallen from a horse,
and I wonder why she can't
stick to singing and teasing
and let her career slowly flicker
and die.
Fame is washed away,
like words scratched on the beach.
The economy is floundering;
international relations a hard sell.
The Obama's Portuguese water dog
is doing very well
as he wanders the White house grounds,
like a playing puppy,
scratching on the beach.
Scientists find life beneath
an Alaskan glacier,
presumably after global warming
exposed new ground;
washed away
like scratchings on the beach.
It's all just scratchings on the beach,
where I come to relax in the sun
and wash away the rest of the world.
God look after us
on this Sunday morning
in this world bracketed by insanity.

Good Friday
NEW ORLEANS -- Violence in the Crescent City impacted festivities on Good Friday.
Churchgoers across the city prayed for peace on Good Friday. "Young men are killing each other." "Jesus Christ died on the cross on this day, but down here in the Crescent City we kill one another." "Adam and Eve didn't know the chaos they would bring into the world," "Down here in the Crescent City we kill one another, even on this holy morning violence and death swirled."
